About our Foundation
To provide the youngest children of Pasarichenai, Arugam Bay and surrounding communities with the highest possible quality of early childhood education in order to inspire life long learning.
Life events and a shared passion for educating children in under-developed countries brought together three friends and educators – Aerian, Alexandra and Bindiya. We started our support of Al Ishraq school in ArugamBay on the east coast of Sri Lanka after the 2004 tsunami. In 2010 we founded the Araliya Education Foundation (AEF) a non-profit charitable trust registered under the UK Charities Act 2006. On 1st January 2014 we opened our first preschool.
The Araliya Education Foundation was initially set up to support the Al-Ishraq Vidyalaya school in Arugam Bay, Sri Lanka. Arugam Bay, a village on the south east coast of Sri Lanka, was devastated by the tsunami in December 2004. Three teachers, Aerian Gray, Alexandra Couet, and Bindiya Hassaram, are continuing in their efforts to raise funds in order to support teaching and learning at this school and to provide early childhood education which is lacking in this community.
